OVERVIEW
Golden Sight was developed during 2022 Epic Megajam. The theme is As Above So Below.
We created a split-screen single-player platforming game.
The main mechanic is keeping the two characters synchronized at the same altitude and position when needed, detaching and controlling only one of them to solve the puzzles.

Lever System
The Lever System is the main method used for bringing one character up to the same level as another character, so they can resync. Later on, the lever system is combined with the jumping pad, pulling bridge systems to increase the difficulty.



Windmill System
The Windmill System is another roadblock system.
By controlling the switch, players have to stop the windmill and shape it to the same pattern as the upper level's layout.
When players move to the second image location, they will face two windmills at once. Players have to observe the patterns of these two windmills and control the windmill so they move at the same pace.


Drop Box System
There are gaps too long for both characters to jump over. Following the road, players will find the lever to drop the box from the upper world down to the lower world to fill the gap. We designed this mechanic so that when players see objects travel between two worlds they can feel these worlds are more connected.

Level Prototyping
As the Level Designer, I designed all the gameplay mechanics that can fit into the level. Based on the mechanics I designed and prototyped all the puzzles, game loop and the collectibles.

Falling Rock System
Players are first introduced to the easiest pattern of rock falling so that players get familiar with this hazard mechanic.
Then I designed other patterns so players need to detach one of the character control to solve the puzzle.
In the last one, players have to learn fast-paced switching characters to avoid both falling rocks and the gaps on the lower map. This challenge is for players to practice and master their skill.


Drop Bridge System
The drop bridge requires the lower-level character to use the jump pad to reach the controller that connects with the upper-level bridge.
In the variant shown in the image 2 location, players have to detach their characters and use the lever system to elevate the lower-level platform to the proper height.

Collectibles
There are two main collectibles in this game. The upper-level character collects gold for score points, and the lower-level character collects mind power energy to refill the energy bar.
