OVERVIEW
Babylon is a 2D puzzle-solving game. We built this game during the 2021 GMTK Game Jam. The game idea came from the movie Platform. The player character starts from the top level of the tower, there is a platform act as an elevator going through all the levels, the only way to control the player's platform level is by adding weight or losing weight on the platform. The game was made by 3 people: one developer, one designer, and one artist for 2 days. There were more than 6000 submitted works, our game final score is at the top 15 percentile.

System/Level Design

I designed the core mechanic of Babylon Tower which is moving the platform by adding or losing objects or human. The player will have to think about how to use weight at the correct moment
I came up with a hazard system that limits player's thinking time to create intense gameplay moments, the player has to be prepared to pass through trap level with strategy.


There are medkit in the level, I designed injured NPC requires the player to use medkit on them first before they can join the platform. This way the player will look out for pickup, and think when is the best time to use the medkit.
I designed the boss fight which is a time-limited event where the player has to have a plan for this encounter.


The boss weight for 2 units, the player has to quicking start unloading his platform to reach the trap floor, since it is the only deadly mechanic in the game. Then the player can kill the boss with the trap carefully without hurting themselves.
